Precast Mantel Care Guide
Traverstone
We recommend keeping your fireplace mantel clean and to seal your fireplace mantel at least once every year, very similar to sealing the grout on your tile. This will aid in maintaining stain resistance. Use a type of sealer that is designed to penetrate concrete or stone products. Make sure to read and to follow all the instructions.
In the event that something is spilled on the product we recommend as follows:
Beverage Drinks:
Using a clean cloth, dab the liquid to soak up the excess only, do not scrub. Then flush the area with clean fresh water. If more cleaning is needed, gently clean with a non detergent cleaning solution.
Soils, dust or dirt:
First use a vacuum to remove any of the debris on the mantel. If more cleaning is necessary gently clean with a non detergent cleaning solution.
Paint:
If latex paint, use paper towels to soak up excess paint. Then flush the area with clean fresh water. If more cleaning is needed, gently clean with a non detergent cleaning solution.

Paint
We recommend keeping the mantel clean using a gentle cleaning solution recommended by the painter or finisher of the mantel. Once a year, or as needed, check the caulking for cracks. If a crack is noticed, re-caulk as necessary. Check that the finish has not worn. If thin spots are noticed, re-finish the mantel.
Caution: Not caulking and painting the mantel can cause the chemically combined water to be driven off through the unsealed surface, thus possibly resulting in mantel failure, thus voiding the warranty.
Wood
HearthCo, Inc. recommends keeping the wood product clean using a gentle cleaning solution recommended by the painter or finisher of the mantel. Once a year, or as needed, check the wood product finish; if the finish is starting to break down, crack or appear worn, the wood product must be professionally refinished. Check the wood product for cracks and fill with a quality color putty that matches the existing finish. Check the caulking at the wall for cracks. If a crack is noticed, re-caulk as necessary.
Caution: Not professionally finishing and caulking the wood product can cause the wood product to fail, thus voiding the warranty.
